Publisher: Reinbek Bei Hamburg, Germany: Rowohlt 1967 Paperback - German English Translation ...Outside the door and selected stories 7.5" by 4.5" -- 121 pages The only drama of the poet who died early is a desperate cry of protest against the destructive and spoilage of war. His stories and prose pieces report with certain accentuated expressiveness about the devastating consequences of war in the individual and in common life. Wolfgang Borchert died in 1947––the twenty-six-year-old victim of a malaria-like fever contracted during World War II. This was just one day after the premier of his play, The Man Outside, which caused an immediate furor throughout his native Germany with its youthful, indeed revolutionary, vision against war and the dehumanizing effects of the police state. In a very real sense, Borchert was both the moral and physical victim of the Third Reich and the Nazi war machine. The cover is lightly foxed, edge-worn, again, slightly. Intact and complete, the front cover showing the only issues with soiling. Otherwise overall very nice. Page number 98 is underlined for some reason.
