A tribute to the rivers which played such a vital role in the development of our nation. The Rivers of America Series started in 1937 conceived by Constance Lindsay Skinner who was the first editor of the series. The first publication of Kennebec: Cradle of Americans by Robert P. Tristram Coffin, and ended in 1974 with the publication of The American: River of El Dorado by Margaret Sanborn. Cumberland River, river formed on the Cumberland Plateau by the confluence of Poor and Clover forks in Harlan county, southern Kentucky, U.S. Looping through northern Tennessee. Important first as a passage for hunters and settlers, the Cumberland River also supported later riverboat trade, which traveled to the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. Villages, towns, and cities were located at landing points along its banks. Through the middle of the 19th century, settlers depended on rivers as the primary transportation routes for trading and travel. Hardcover with jacket. Book itself is in very good condition. Plastic mylar protective cover carries the library code on spine and the pocket in the back of book "Sandy Springs Branch Library Atlanta, Georgia".
