Discusses the development and evolution of the Great Seal of the United States along with derived seals such as the Seal of the President, Vice President, Department of State and Supreme Court through three congressional committees (1776, 1780, 1782) and then also the engraving of dies. Biographical sketches are given of some of the various people involved at different points in time. Also covered is the use of the Great Seal in government documents such as treaties or patents and public displays of the Great Seal such as in paintings and currency. A question and answer section at the end of the book addresses a variety of different topics including a number of myths and stories concerning the Great Seal. Hard to find first edition in wonderful condition. Looks as new but for very minor marks where only flash picks up on front cover. Spotless interior. No jacket.
