Publisher Stanford University Press, 1972 ISBN 0804708037 The personal and societal problems of bilingualism and biculturalism are analyzed by an authority in the field of psycholinguistics. The book is a collection of papers by the author, spanning from the 50s to the 70s. The common theme is bilingualism. With a subtopic of how a person acquires a second language. There is even a discussion about a possible relationship between bilingualism and intelligence. For example, it discusses how maybe the learning of a second language helps the general thought process. No doubt people who speak several languages would like to think so. It does point out that knowing 2 languages helps a person separate an idea or thought from words. That the appreciation of another way to render that idea is intellectually liberating. Very good condition with underlining that is so fine I am not able to discern if it was the (professor's work, previous owner) or deliberate. I found a page with a small highlight. Really very nice with the previous owner's name front endpaper with very light penciling of three pages....must be important. Can be erased. Dust Jacket very nice with mild edgewear. Please see photos and email with questions. Please see and enlarge photos and email with any questions prior to purchase. Thanks |
