Publisher: A.L. Burt Co./The Book Supply Company 1914 464 pages -- Approx. size: 7.5" by 5.25" by 1.5" Color illustrations by Frank G. Cootes This novel is set in "Fairlands", which is based on Redlands, California, and focuses on several artists and art patrons. The Eyes of the World is the story of a young painter named Aaron King, who heads out west to California. There, he meets and befriends Conrad Lagrange, a famous and critically renowned novelist who, by his own admission, writes “the putrid offal that self-respecting writers reject.” The plot revolves around whether Aaron will flatter the rich and powerful men and women who control the art world, or keep his integrity as an artist. Meanwhile, he falls in love with a free-spirited girl named Sybil. Nice condition for it's age. Deep red cloth covers with gold decorative lines and lettering. Covers show some discoloration in spots. The only writing is a gift inscription dated Oct 4, 1914 on the first blank page. Toning to be expected. First illustration shows a small closed tear on left edge. Please see photos, enlarge and email with any questions you may have. Thanks for looking. |
