Ananai-kyo is based on a type of meditation called chinkon-kishin (literally, "quieting the soul in order to become the kami"). New Religion - founded in the post-WWII era that focused on spiritualism and international peace. The group was quite active in the 1950s and was known for promoting a blend of traditional Japanese spirituality with an interest in global cooperation (and, interestingly, astronomy).

Some history below:

'The teaching (kyo) of the three (ana) and the five (nai)'. A messianic Shinto group founded in 1949 by Nakano, Yonosuke (b.1887). Ananai-kyo worships kuni-toko-tachi-no-mikoto and teaches a yogic-type practice of chinkon kishin, 'stilling the spirit to become one with the kami'. It has an ecumenical approach to other religions. The 'three' in the group's title refers to the teachings of (1) chinkon kishin (2) the form of Taoism taught in the 'red swastika' movement in Manchuria associated with Deguchi, Onisaburo who like Nakano was a disciple of the spiritualist teacher Nagasawa, Katsutoshi and (3) the Baha'i faith. The 'five' refers to the traditions of Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Islam and Taoism from which Ananai-kyo draws inspiration.
