Author Signed Will H. Hays
See and Hear; A Brief History of Motion Pictures and the Development of Sound 1929
Will Hays, head of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America from 1922 to 1945, provides a postage-stamp summary of the birth of film, the development of sound, and the future of the industry.
Some interesting history: Hays was the first President of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors Association of America, was Chairman of the Republican National Committee (1918-21), and US Postmaster General under Warren Harding (1921-22). As Postmaster General, he opposed sending "obscene" materials through the mail, and in 1922 began developing what would become Hollywood's censorship guideline, the "Hays Code."
Great graphic illustrations and photographs. Considered very nice for the age. Black boards with gold title label on the front board, spine titles were gilt but now nearly rubbed away.
Previous owners stamps 'Mt. St. Benedict Crookston Mn' and white index lettering and numbering outside on covers edge by spine. This may be able to be removed.
