by Marvin Cohodas, Norman Feder, Wolfgang Haberland, Christian F. Feest and Edwin L. Wade Publisher: Hudson Hills 1986 ISBN-10 0933920555 ISBN-13 9780933920552 1.3" h by 9.2" w by 12.2" L. Hardcover "The Arts of the North American Indian" is an important attempt to better define tribal arts of North America, north of the Rio Grande. Although initially conceived as a catalogue to accompany a touring exhibition of Native American art, which never materialized, the book's 14 essays are in my opinion a more important and lasting event than the proposed exhibition. Fourteen authorities explore sociology, anthropology, art history of Native creativity. Dazzling illustrations. Includes essays and full color photos of the dress, lives, and traditions of the Native American Indians. The book is in like new condition. The jacket shows a slight imprint of what looks to be a band across the middle and some minor scuff marks. Otherwise very nice. Please see photos and email with any questions prior to purchase. Thanks for looking. |
