Approx. Size: 4.75 x 4 inches : 96 pages
A rare collection of stories; The Indian chief and the little white boy -- The little flower girl -- The drowned boy -- Story of the petrel -- A fox and her young ones.
The beginning story tells the tale of the Howard family who settle in Indian territory in New York, and gain the trust and friendship of a powerful Indian chief by entrusting him with their young son for three days. Perpetuating many stereotypes of the Native Americans. But for the time, these stories also portray many noble characteristics of morality, kindness, loyalty, honor and a parents love within the Indians. A collection of animal tales as well.
Very rare book found in a book lovers personal collection. Also includes old silk ribbon wrapped needlework with the name Mary.
Somewhat faded violet cloth boards, flash brings out more soiling than can be seen with naked eye. Blind stamped designs to front and rear boards with a minor amount of rubbing and wear to corners and spine ends. Gilt stamped lettering and design to spine. Book is intact except for first blank page but binding is separated very cleanly...probably is very worth rebinding. Pencilled notes and names on front and back free endpapers ... Interior toned but clean of any writings or marks.(Joanna (Josie) Braham, Iowa heritage?)
This little book has survived well over 150 years and in my estimation is in very good condition for it.
Please see and enlarge all photos and email with any questions prior to purchase. Thanks!
