Publisher: London, Smith, Elder and Co.: 1851 Approx. Size: measuring 7.5" by 5.25" -- 251 pages The title of the volume, "Table-Talk," will, it is hoped, be found by the reader to be warranted by the conversational turn of the style, as well as the nature and variety of the subjects touched upon, and the manner in which they are treated. Some portion was really talked; and it may be said of the rest, that the thoughts have, in all probability, passed the writer's lips in conversation. The "Imaginary Conversations of Pope and Swift" were considered an appropriate addition to a volume of "Table-Talk," and are intended strictly to represent both the turn of style and of thinking of these two poets; though the thoughts actually expressed are the writer's invention. Early owner's bookplate: John M. Cameron. This is a beautiful antique book for display or excellent addition to your library. The front and rear covers are decorated with gilt bands at the spine and lettering. Marbled rich burgundy covers with cobalt blue leather corners and spine. Gold gilt paper end sheets at top of book. The only issue I find is the outer upper edges of the pages when closed have taken a hit at some point and caused minor edge damage to the outside. Wear and some rubbing to edges but overall fabulous for the age. Please see and enlarge photos and email with any questions prior to purchase. Thanks |
