Good news from a poor sinner Altogether more beautiful specimen of E Rosegger Peter L.Staackmann A petition for mercy was filed with the king. The 40-year-old carpenter Konrad Ferleitner waits weeks in the army cell for his execution. Konrad had worked in several major German cities. The journeyman had joined a club in Hamburg, which planned an assassination attempt on the chancellor. Konrad had been selected by lottery as a revolver. Although the victim had survived, Konrad had been sentenced to death by hanging. Konrad can hardly stand the wait and writes in the cell the life of Jesus (inland narrative). The carpenter has finished the transcript when the chancellor succumbs to his gunshot wound. Konrad is to be executed the next day. But he dies in his cell before. During his lifetime, writing had given him strength in his last days: "If it comes, I will be strong." Very pretty Art Nouveau Jugendstil design. Very good condition. Does show spotting from age on first few pages and toned throughout. Slightly bumped corners. Previous owners name and handwriting inside. Gold lettering on spine and cover. Tight and sturdy.
