Great Northern Railway “Oriental Limited” Menu featuring Mary White Horse and Eagle Calf (Blackfeet Indians) - Circa 1929–1935 A beautiful example of Great Northern ephemera. Promotional menu from the Oriental Limited passenger train, issued by the Great Northern Railway. These menus were used aboard the Oriental Limited passenger trains that ran between Chicago and Seattle in the early 20th century, often around the 1920s–1930s. The cover features vivid portraiture of two Blackfeet individuals — Mary White Horse and Eagle Calf. They are set against a stylized mountain backdrop. The design exemplifies Reiss’s celebrated series of Blackfeet portraits commissioned for Great Northern advertising and Glacier Park promotion. Measures approx. 6.5" by 10" closed and 13" by 10" open. Near mint with minor discoloration at upper left corner tip; colors remain bright, edges sharp, and surface clean. Looks to be one of the cleaner surviving copies that I've found. Please see photos, enlarge and email with any questions. Thanks for looking. |
