This is a very hard-to-find, out-of-print vintage menu. A great obscure find. Charlie's Cafe Exceptionale was located at 7th Street and 4th Avenue South in downtown Minneapolis. The restaurant served us for 49 years until the doors closed permanently in July of 1982. Charles Saunders had partnered with Charles "the Finn" Herlin. Sadly, Herlin passed away soon after the restaurant opened. Saunders would continue to be the head of the cafe until his death. Hi wife took over after that. The oak paneled dining room hosted generations with a sophisticated-in-its-day menu that included a potato salad so wondrous that the recipe continues to be highly sought after and is now served at the awards that honors the restaurant. Via Twin cities Eater site. Approx. size: 12 x 9 1/16 in. This menu is in fabulous condition. Preserved all these years in storage until our acquisition. This shows a paste down on the front upper left corner of the original restaurant in black and white. "America's most talked about and unique cafe". Looking at the menu you will find many unique dishes. And price's we wish were still in use today. A fun gift idea for the cook or friend in the Culinary profession in your life. Or interesting piece for the Minneapolis or Minnesota history lover. Please see photos, enlarge and email with any questions prior to purchase. Thanks for looking. |
