Publisher : NLP Marketing 1994 Issue No. 1 Approx. size: 8.5" by 5.25" -- Unpagenated Funky Winkerbean debuted in 1972. The strip centers around Westview High School in a small Ohio town, and chronicles the lives of its students and faculty, among others. For about the first twenty years, time was frozen as readers enjoyed the adventures of high school students Funky Winkerbean and company, the Westview High marching band (led by Harry Dinkle, the world's greatest band leader), and the Westview Scapegoats, probably the losingest football team in comic strip history. Tom Batiuk is the creator of the long-running newspaper comic 'Funky Winkerbean'. Born in Akron, Ohio, and educated in fine arts at Kent State University, he was a high school teacher in arts and crafts before he turned to cartooning. His first professional work was a panel for the teen page of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram in 1970. Two years later, he started his celebrated comic strip 'Funky Winkerbean'. Very good, near mint condition. Spotless interior. Fun gift idea for the band conductor or instrumentalist in your life or add to you comic collection and library.
