Don Wilson relates his experiences as a forest ranger in Minnesota. The book covers the first ten years of the 45 years he spent in forestry.

First Day on the Job, April 18, 1927

Before we arrived at the Smoky Hills station, (Harold) Page, (Park Rapids district ranger), stopped at a farmhouse near the base of the tower hill and filled an eight gallon cream can with water. He informed me that this would need to last me for awhile.

Starting in 1927, Don obtained employment with the Minnesota Forest Service as a towerman in the Osage district of the Park Rapids area.  There were many unemployed at this time and Don considered himself fortunate to receive $80.00 a month salary. After one year he was promoted to the position of forest patrolman at Longville and the following year was appointed to the position of Patrolman-at-large with headquarters in Deer River. During his entire career he earned a great deal of respect from all fellow workers and especially those working in the field. Many World War II veterans who joined the division in 1946 remember Don for his helpfulness.  ... Clarence B. Buckman MD N R, Retired.

The book is a great read for anyone in Minnesota or the field. The condition is very good and signed by the author. The original owner has passed but left the card that came from the purchase when new. Spotless interior. Clean and bright.
