Despite the number of books on Greek art in recent years, the overall achievement of the Classical period has been conspicuously neglected.
THE ART OF CLASSICAL GREECE is intended to meet the need for an up-to-date survey of developments in architecture, sculpture, vase-painting, and the like during the golden age of Greek art,
which may be regarded as extending from about 500 to 325 B.C.
Professor Schefold divides this period of 175 years into four main phases: Early Classical, Mature Classical, the Rich Style, and the Late Classical, and by close stylistic analysis of the chief surviving masterpieces, shows how the passage from one phase to another was dictated not only by advances in technique but also by changing conceptions of life. Profusely illustrated with 49 tipped-in colour plates, 16 pages of black-and-white photographic plates, line drawings and maps. Includes chronology, bibliography, glossary and index.
Very good condition. The dust jacket has very light edge wear. Small paper page factory imperfection on page 261. Minor at edge.
The boards are covered in maroon cloth with gold titles in a gold & black box on the spine and an "art of the world" logo in gold on the front.
