Title page portrait of the author, plus photograph illustrations throughout text. Measures 8x6½" with toned covers.

First Edition. Diary of a young California gold-prospector, April 8, 1898 to September 27, 1899, who later became a respected ornithologist at the University of California. He did not make his fortune, but managed to bring back "my precious birds.
They are my gold."
The book is "dedicated to disappointed gold-hunters the world over."

Very rare find and is far less common that the issue bound in cloth and marbled boards. Wraps show only a few tiny stains. Intact and clean inside, spine has very minor tears; very good to excellent especially for the age.  96 pp. Edited by Elizabeth Grinnell.

Olin Industries was founded in 1892 as the Western Powder Company by a former baseball player named Franklin Olin. The Du Pont family and their Gunpowder Trust acquired 49 percent of Olin's company in 1909. Western's first acquisition after the incident, Winchester Arms, was a defensive move against Du Pont, which might have purchased the company to deprive Western of a customer for its gunpowder. First edition of this well illustrated catalog showing 74 pages.  All the foot wear available from Doublewear in 1936 mostly for men with a few woman's and boys styles in the back. They included Kidskin, Calfskin, and Scotch Grain Oxfords, Dress Shoes, Hi-Cut boots and shoes, Policeman's Oxfords & Boots, Aviator's boots, Work boots, Boy Scout boots and more.

The Doublewear Shoe company operated in Minneapolis, Minnesota from the 1920s until the 1980s. They were well known for their self-sterilizing Sanitized shoes, a company process which prevented formation of odors, and development of bacteria, as well as cracking and rotting of the leather.

This catalog is in as mint condition as possible and shows staple binding. A fabulous look into the foot fashion of the past. Wish I could show more photos. Please email me with any questions prior to purchase. This measures 9 by 6 inches.

Puck was the first successful humor magazine in the United States of colorful cartoons, caricatures and political satire. It was published from 1871 until 1918.The weekly magazine was founded by Joseph Ferdinand Keppler in St. Louis. Keppler began publishing Puck in English and German language editions in March 1871. Five years later, the German edition of Puck moved to New York City, where the first magazine was published on September 27, 1876. The English language edition soon followed on March 14, 1877.
