Time Special Edition. Franklin D.
Roosevelt; The Power of Leadership
2018 - Brand New
Single Issue Magazine
Publisher: Time, Topix (2018)
ASIN: B07K5FZ3BR
Time Magazine 2018 Franklin D
Roosevelt The Power of Leadership.
Wonderful book in a chaotic time for
politics and America.
Writing to his fellow Democrats in
the 1920s, Roosevelt noted that
their party could not hope to return
to power until the Republicans led
the nation "into a serious period of
depression and unemployment." The
Great Depression soon brought a far
longer and deeper period of woe than
F.D.R. foresaw. But the crisis of
the 1930s also provided an object
lesson in the relationship between
economic danger and political
opportunity.....
A More Secure America
It's old news that F.D.R.'s New Deal
did not end the Depression. On that
score, there was little difference
between Roosevelt and Herbert
Hoover. But unlike Hoover, F.D.R.
seized the occasion to shape a
legacy of durable reforms. For that
accomplishment — along with winning
World War II — historians routinely
rank him among the greatest
Presidents.
Brand new, never read. Please email
with any questions prior to
purchase. Great gift idea for the
political junky.

different. Taken from front

Certain Trumpets: The Call of
Leadership – 1994 by Garry Wills,
Simon & Schuster
Paperback: 336 pages -- approx.
size: 9.25" by 6"
Publisher: Simon &
Schuster / Literary Research,
Inc. 1994
ISBN: 067165702X
What makes a leader? How do we
identify effective leadership, and
how should—and shouldn’t—that power
be used? In Certain Trumpets, Garry
Wills presents portraits of eminent
leaders including FDR to Ross Perot,
King David, Martha Graham, and many
others, offering an illuminating
lens for studying society and
ourselves.
Dividing these portraits into
sixteen leadership categories
ranging from military to
charismatic, intellectual,
rhetorical, and elected, Wills
highlights what makes each of his
subjects unique, crafting along the
way a distinct and incisive
definition of leadership as a
reciprocal engagement between two
contrasting wills that serves to
mobilize us toward a common good,
and explaining why leadership is so
often a contentious and emotionally
charged subject.
Very nice softcover that looks to be
hardly read if ever. Very slight
bump to lower right corner of
cover. Please email with any
questions.

these wrongs: Tom Paine, Edward R.
Murrow, Daniel Ellsberg. Vincent
Bugliosi takes his place in this
special pantheon of patriots with
his powerful, brilliant, and
courageous expose of crime by the
highest court in the land. When an

tapping a deep reservoir of outrage.

Creativity, Conflict &
Controversy 1979: A History of the
St. Paul District, U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers by Raymond Merritt
Publisher: US Army Corps of
Engineers St. Paul MN - 1979
First Edition (With original
letterhead of issue)
Army Corps of Engineers from
1866-1975
Size: 10.75 inches tall by 8 1/2
inches wide
"The history of the St. Paul
District is the history of the upper
Midwest and its growth over more
than century," according to Col.
(Ret.) Forrest T. Gay, III, the
district's 49th district engineer.
Published in 1979, the book examines
the history of the district,
starting with the area's exploration
by the French and ending with the
Corps' work up to the mid-1970s.
Merritt details the major projects
undertaken by the district,
including dam construction on the
waterways in the Upper Mississippi
Valley.
But far from just a list of
projects, the book examines the
various conflicts and controversies
surrounding the Corps, such as
environmental issues. As Merritt
wrote in the preface, "The current
popular image of the Corps - good,
bad or indifferent - is largely
myth." By making this book available
to the public through the internet,
we hope to be able to inform the
public of all the Corps has done for
the Upper Mississippi Valley and the
Corps' role in their lives.
Original letterhead for the sale of
the book. Edge of this letter shows
wear as it was at one point probably
sat inside book lengthwise.
Beautiful condition with only the
slightest handling wear. Pages are
clean with no markings from previous
owners, except for the original
sales slip inside showing original
cost. Binding is square and
tight. Boards are clean.

Our Liberty Bell – HC w/ Jacket 2007
by Henry Magaziner, John O'Brien
Stated First Edition: 32 pages
Publisher: Holiday House - 2007
ISBN-13: 978-0823418923
Approx. Size 8 x 9.5 inches
"This attractive book brings the
history of the Liberty Bell alive
for young readers. The original
bell, imported from England in 1752,
made a dull sound and immediately
cracked. Recast twice at an American
foundry, the bell rang to announce
one important event after another:
the end of the French and Indian
War; the Boston Tea Party; the
battle at Lexington; the signing of
the Declaration of Independence; the
end of the Revolutionary War; and
the death of George Washington,
among others. Even after the bell
cracked in 1843, it served as an
important national symbol, traveling
across the U.S. in the late 1800s to
help reunify the country. In
different periods, abolitionists,
suffragists, and civil rights
leaders adopted the Liberty Bell as
their symbol. Students tend to learn
and subsequently categorize
historical periods as separate
"units," but here Magaziner wisely
creates an overall sense of unity
through history. Written with
clarity and verve, this uses the
central image of the bell to tie
together the events it heralded and
the causes it came to represent.
O'Brien's imaginative and sometimes
witty ink drawings illustrate with
finesse".
This concise book makes very
interesting historical reading for
youth or adult alike. Black and
white illustrations.
Looks to be never read. Very good to
excellent. Tight and wonderful book
with very good dust cover.

The Strange Death of President

1st Edition, 8th Printing.
This book purports to tell of Gaston
Means' activities as an investigator
for the U. S. Department of Justice
when Harry Daugherty was
Attorney-General. This book purports
to tell of Gaston Means' activities
as an investigator for the U. S.
Department of Justice when Harry
Daugherty was Attorney-General. It
is replete with lengthy quotations
of people Means says he came in
contact with while working for Mrs.
Harding. These cannot be accurate
unless Means had them taped--long
before the days of Watergate. No
doubt Nixon would have been enamored
of Means, who did "dirty tricks" so
successfully--according to him.
Would make for an interesting read
considering today's politics. Covers
show every blemish due to flash,
doesn't appear to be this scuffed to
the naked eye. A stamp of sorts is
partially seen on spine. Hardcover,
good condition, tight and intact.
Rough edged original pages, last few
longer than others. Someone took ink

soiling.

Approx. size: 8.5 by 6"
Cotton has touched off wars and
revolutions, inspired astonishing
inventions, laid waste to entire
ecosystems, and enslaved untold
millions of people. Today, cotton
is, if anything, more preeminent
than ever and at the center of
raging global controversies.
By the mid-nineteenth century, the
vast plantations of the antebellum
South, the grim mill towns of New
England, and the soot-spewing
factories of the English Midlands
were knit together in a global
system of exploitation and
enslavement—all of it based on
cotton. When Marx and Engels
composed The Communist Manifesto,
they chose cotton manufacturing as
the prime symbol of capitalism run
amok. Beautifully researched and
written, Big Cottontraces the
cultural, economic, and social
history of the “world’s friendliest”
fiber from the kingdoms of
Mesopotamia to the Gap.
Illustrated with wonderful artwork
and photos. Excellent gift idea.
Beautiful condition with original

second is radical religion. The
third is unprecedented levels of
national and consumer debt.
An explosive examination of the
coalition of forces that threatens
the nation, from the bestselling
author of American Dynasty
In his two most recent bestselling
books, American Dynasty and Wealth
and Democracy, Kevin Phillips
established himself as a powerful
critic of the political and economic
forces that rule—and imperil—the
United States, tracing the ever more
alarming path of the emerging
Republican majority’s rise to power.
Now Phillips takes an uncompromising
view of the current age of global
overreach, fundamentalist religion,
diminishing resources, and
ballooning debt under the GOP
majority. With an eye to the past
and a searing vision of the future,
Phillips confirms what too many
Americans are still unwilling to
admit about the depth of our
misgovernment.
Very nice condition. Spotless
interior, pages are clean and
bright. Binding is tight. Looks
barely read. Only very slight bumped
corners.

Headwaters of the Mississippi by
Captain Willard Glazier 1897 ~
Account of the Discovery and
Location of its True Source in a
Lake Beyond Itasca
Headwaters of the Mississippi : -
Comprising Biographical Sketches of
Early and Recent Explorers of the
Great River, and a Full Account of
the Discovery and Location of its
True Source in a Lake Beyond Itasca.
This intriguing book was written by
Civil War veteran and former
prisoner-of-war Captain Willard
Glazier, who, upon concluding his
service for the Union cause,
embarked on a career of adventure
and exploration on the American
frontier. In the years following the
war, Captain Glazier completed a
one-man journey on horseback from
Boston to San Francisco. He also
personally organized and commanded
two pioneering expeditions in search
of the true source of the
Mississippi.
HEADWATERS OF THE MISSISSIPPI is a
historical chronicle of Mississippi
River exploration, from the early
discoveries of De Vaca and Desoto,
Marquette and Joliet, to Captain
Glazier's own controversial
expeditions in 1881 and 1891, in
which he set out to pinpoint the
true source of the Mississippi and
dispute a popular claim that the
river rises from Lake Itasca.

The Bunker Hill Monument Adams and
Jefferson...Two Orations by Daniel
Webster; Riverside Literature Series
#56
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin &
Company
Publication Date: 1893
"As early as 1776, steps were
taken toward the commemoration of
the battle of Bunker Hill and the
heroic death of Dr. Joseph Warren,
who was buried upon the hill the
day after the action. At the time
of the battle, Warren was a
major-general in the Continental
Army. The Massachusetts Lodge of
Masons, over which Warren had
presided, applied to the
provisional government of
Massachusetts for permission to
take up his remains and to bury
them with the usual solemnities.
The Council granted this request,
on condition that the government
of the Colony might have an
opportunity to erect a monument to
his memory. A eulogy on General
Warren was delivered, but no
measures were taken toward
building a monument. --On the 11th
of November, 1794, a committee was
appointed by King Solomon's Lodge,
at Charlestown, /1/ to take
measures for the erection of a
monument to the memory of General
Joseph Warren at the expense of
the Lodge. "
Beautiful and very early edition for
your original series. This being
number 56. 15c. paperback at the
year of publishing.
Normal toned pages due to age. A
very light penciling is the only
writing at the blank first page
stating Hilda Halverson, "Touch Not,
Taste Not, Handle Not" -- obviously
this previous owner had a sense of
humor. Slightly bumped corners, some
discoloration by staples, still
tight and nice edition.
